There is a simple exuberance to the movement of the breath, an innocent bliss to the rising and falling of the vital force. And feeling into that is one of the simple pleasures of being alive. Yoga practice can be just about this—about feeling into the vivacity of the body, and being exhilarated by its presence.
There is nothing more that yoga needs to be.
But when we drop into the space of the body, and feel into the depths of our being, we find ourselves immersed in a noble presence of awareness, one that holds us with a strange but familiar grace. And the art of yoga, as we know it, is about steeping ourselves in that presence, allowing ourselves to melt in its embrace, only to emerge renewed.
The potency of the practice—our ability to drop in and connect—depends on how we work with the breath, how we hold the movements of inhaling and exhaling within our bodies, and how we allow these movements to flow through our minds. This is what the traditional techniques of asana and pranayama are all about.
In this deep-summer retreat, we explore the techniques that bring these practices alive—tracing internal currents of breath, balancing subtle patterns of sensation, quickening the ascending force with alignment and bandha, and moving the body from the inside out. Using these techniques, we feel more deeply into the body, and we make more room within ourselves for consciousness to breathe.
Through a deep dose of daily practice, and a lovingly curated series of workshops on alignment, philosophy and technique, we share with you a deeper, richer and more potent way of practicing, one that brings you back into connection with the flowing currents of your breath, so you can follow them back into the depths of your being, and remember what it feels like to be vividly awake.
This retreat is open to anyone who wants to explore the depth and potency of yoga. There are no requirements of experience or ability, and people with injuries or special circumstances are absolutely welcome to join. We will hold a warm and loving space that inspires you not only to practice, but to open and explore.
